Our Lady of Fatima Centenary

1917 to 2017 (May to October)

First Saturday Devotions

May to September 2017

The Centenary provides an excellent opportunity to start the First Saturday Devotions if you’ve not practised it before, or for you to renew and refresh.    You’ll recall that the National Statue of Our Lady of Fatima was with us for about 4 days in September 2015. We had various times of prayer and Masses around the visit and the Statue was also received in our schools.  We very much hope that the fruit of that will be the uptake of this Devotion which is monthly for 5 months starting on Saturday 6th May 2017.

The First Saturday Devotions were given to the world by the Blessed Virgin Mary who appeared 6 times to three local children (Francisco, Jacinta & Lucy)  in a rural area near Fatima, in Portugal, from May 1917  to October 1917.  Francisco & Jacinta were canonised on 13th May 2017.  We are glad of the brother and sister, St. Francisco and St. Jacinta.  Lucy was their cousin, she became a nun and Sr. Lucy died in 2005.

As our Parish is consecrated to Our Lady, it is wonderful that we already have in place, as part of our regular worship, all the features that will help us to observe the First Saturday Devotions.  We encourage everyone to practice the Devotions as individuals or as a family or with other members of the parish community during the usual provision times of the Church.

You must love one another just as I have loved you.
It is by your love for one another, that everyone will recognise you as my disciples (John 13:35).

Please click on "what to do", to find out the dates, devotion acts, what the Devotions entail and the spiritual benefits,  in order to answer Our Lady of Fatima’s call to each and everyone of us to :

*  Return to God

*  Do penance in reparation for sins

*  Make sacrifices for the

    conversion of sinners

In responding to this call, God’s wish to establish Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, will continue to happen and souls of sinners will be saved.

New Life in Christ - New Catholics

Looking to become a Catholic or finding out what we believe (click here)? and also see the Parish Newsletter for updates and who to contact if you have questions or want to have life to the full.

Warmest welcome and congratulations to our new Catholics for Reception and being Baptised, Confirmed and receiving Our Lord Jesus in Holy Communion for the first time, at the Easter Vigil of Saturday 15th April.  We give thanks to God for their call to the fullness of life in Christ and their "yes".    Watch this space for direct quotes from our new Catholics and see our parish newsletter.

In the meantime, this is what Ebenezer said of his new life:

"It's been a long journey of research and copious reading to get to Confirmation.
I was, at [age] 70, totally overcome with joy, peace and a sense of 'finally',
as though I have passed a hard examination.  Now I am one of a Gracious Group"

For Elizabeth B there was joy and wiped away tears!

"I felt anointed and blessed.  There was joy in my heart.  It was exactly 7 years [ago] that my dad passed away, so I felt special getting Baptised on my dad's anniversary, which [might have been] a sad day for me, but God gave a fantastic present on that day, which wiped away my tears"
