Advent Parish Mission 2017 - starts Sun 3 Dec 2017 @ 4.30pm - Parish Centre

Advent is the time before Christmas.  In the sacred Seasons of Advent and Christmas, we think and pray about the first coming of Jesus into our world and also about his promise to come a second time.  We are living in the time between his first coming when he shared all our human weakness except Sin and his future second coming when he will appear as Almighty God to complete his work of saving us from all that harms us.  How does he want us to live our lives in this ‘in-between’ time?

Come and hear all about how the Lord asks us to be, as we wait and long for him to come again and set us completely free from all that damages and saddens us.Please do come and let the Lord enter your heart in a very special way as Christmas draws near.  The Retreat/Mission will give you a great joy and a deep peace during the busy days that lie ahead.

1st Sunday of Advent : Reflection on Stewardship by Canon John Weatherill

1st Sunday of Advent : Reflection on Stewardship by Canon John Weatherill

Stewardship by Canon John Weatherill

Archbishop Peter Smith mentions in his Pastoral letter for the Advent Season 2016, that he has “found it so encouraging and uplifting to find vibrant parish communities and first class schools which live out the Gospel in many different ways – in the development of evangelisation teams, “Stewardship” groups, prayer groups, and outreach to the poor and homeless by fulfilling the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in their respective communities amongst many other good works…”

This is very much echoed in Fr. John’s reflection wherein he helps us to understand Stewardship

Stewardship is a spirituality that is accessible to everyone, as the concept of gratitude to God for his personal gifts to us in our lives acts as a focus and provides the right language for our people’s lived faith.

It can resonate with their own lives, their responsibilities, character and experiences.

It provides the vocabulary and spiritual imagery to describe, affirm, sustain and promote much of what we already do in our parishes and thus provides a cohesion that may still be lacking in our lived discipleship”

PARISH MEETINGS: Praying & Building Together - meetings update

Many thanks to all those who were able to contribute to our series of Parish meetings.  We had over 22 gatherings since October 2016 to date, and they have all but finished. However,  the praying and building together continues.  Please listen for announcements and see our parish newsletter for updates.  We are now going to work on the bringing to life of  some of the ideas and ways forward, particularly with a view to having our Parish Pastoral Council up and functioning.

Year of Mercy concluded on 20th Nov, but the Fount of Mercy (Confession) is always open.

Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)

Fri 27th May 2016 (6.45pm for 7pm)

A small number of parishioners will soon meet to begin the process of forming our new PPC.  So what will its purpose be? A PPC consists of a group of people who act as a consultative body, serving the parish priest in the spirit of mutual appreciation, charity and dialogue.  The council does not manage the parish, but brings an important voice to all pastoral activities.  The activities of the Council should encourage the development of Christian life and the engagement of the parish in bringing spiritual and material assistance and the Gospel message to everyone in its community.  Its make-up will reflect the diverse nature of the parish.  Your suggestions can be put in writing and you can send in your thoughts by e-mail.

Listening to our Young People

Sun 15thMay @ 1.45pm

Pentecost Sunday (15th May) 12.15pm Mass, we encourage our young parishioners, if possible, to attend this Holy Mass.  After, at about 1.45pm, a buffet followed by a discussion to talk about their roles in the life of the parish, will take place in the parish prayer room.  The Church and world need the Faith, gifts, energy and fresh ideas of young people.  Our parish is blessed to have hundreds of young people who attend Mass.  We want to help them on their journey of Faith.  With our new parish centre soon to open, this will provide opportunities to help and support our young people, who are not to be underestimated.
